Which myQ App Works with LiftMaster and Chamberlain?

Choose myQ Garage & Access Control for compatible personal equipment, or myQ Community for a participating property. Business and shared-gate equipment needs its own model and access check.

Which myQ app do you need?

Choose by the entrance you need to use—not just the LiftMaster name on the equipment.

Before you begin

  • Identify whether you control your own garage equipment or receive access from a property manager.
  • Have your phone available; do not try setup while driving or standing in a moving doorway.

Two different starting points

For a compatible personal garage, start with myQ Garage & Access Control. Its listing describes garage control, status, alerts and access sharing. For a participating apartment building or community entrance, myQ Community is the resident-access route: authorized entrances, guest passes and intercom video calls depend on the property setup. Neither app name establishes that every gate or door will work. A brand label is a clue, not an access entitlement.

What to do

  1. Choose ‘My own garage’ if you are setting up equipment you own or are authorized to manage. Continue to Identify your hardware before adding a device.
  2. Choose ‘My apartment or community’ if management provides access. Ask the Community or Facility Manager to assign your app license; the invitation arrives by email.
  3. For Community, follow the invitation associated with your own license. Each household member needs an individual license rather than sharing one login.
  4. Use the official download card for the app you selected. Keep your existing authorized entry method until you have confirmed the new route works.

What success looks like

You know the exact app name and your next action: identify personal hardware, or complete a manager-issued Community invitation.

Pause here if…

  • You are trying to administer a shared gate or commercial entrance without the owner's authorization.
  • Your manager has not confirmed that the property supports Community. Installing an app alone does not grant access.

Common questions

Can I use Community as a replacement for the consumer app?

Do not treat it as a universal replacement. This guide separates personal equipment setup from property-managed resident access.

Why does a free download still need a license?

The store download and the property’s access service are different. Community license pricing varies by property; ask management.

Which route fits a business or an unfamiliar gate?

Stop at model and ownership identification. Do not apply the residential hub procedure simply because the equipment says LiftMaster.

Invitations, shared access and multiple homes

Invited account→Accepted invitation→Correct home

If a shared garage is missing, check the email account used for the invitation and the home currently selected in the app. Keep a missing invitation separate from a garage device being offline.

Which role or user limit applies?

Owner, co-owner and household access have different permissions. Use the current role guidance for the feature you need. Capacity can depend on the service and context; check the applicable documentation rather than assuming a single limit for every myQ product.

Is this myQ Community?

A participating property uses its own manager-issued invitation and individual license. Follow the Community route instead of trying to add its shared entrance as a personal garage opener.
