Remove a Car’s Garage Access: myQ or HomeLink?

Removing one connection does not prove every route into the garage is removed. Check the connected-car account link, any shared myQ user, and the vehicle’s HomeLink radio memory separately.

Find the next step ↓

Check your route

Connected Garage account

Unlink the vehicle using that manufacturer’s documented flow.

Shared myQ user

Review and revoke the relevant person’s permissions from the owner account.

HomeLink radio control

Clear the vehicle’s programming using its manual. Revoking radio access at the opener can affect other remotes.

Choose the right path
  1. Identify access paths
  2. Unlink cloud account
  3. Review user + radio access
  4. Verify each path

Review each access path

  1. List the actual access paths

Check whether the car uses myQ Connected Garage, physical HomeLink buttons, or both. Identify any shared myQ account permissions associated with the driver.

    Expected result

You know which connections must be removed.

  2. Unlink a Tesla account when applicable

While parked, use Vehicle Settings → Locks → myQ Connected Garages → Unlink Account → Yes. Some instructions label the entry Controls. Unlink the old Tesla before linking its replacement.

    Expected result

The old vehicle no longer has that myQ account link.

  3. Handle the remaining access separately

Review shared-user permissions and, if present, clear HomeLink memory using the vehicle’s exact manual. Opener-level radio revocation needs the exact opener procedure and a plan for affected remotes.

    Expected result

Each access path is addressed rather than assumed removed.

  4. Review the subscription

Unlinking and cancellation are separate. Check the service provider and renewal status; paid service may continue through its term.

    Expected result

You know both the access state and billing state.

If something does not match

You no longer have the vehicle

Use official manufacturer or myQ support. No universal remote-revoke menu is established here; do not assume deleting a phone app or driver profile is enough.

Other remotes must keep working

Do not erase all opener memory as a shortcut. Identify the exact equipment and consequences before any radio-memory change.

Common questions

Does changing Wi-Fi remove HomeLink access?

No. HomeLink radio programming is separate from the Wi-Fi network.

Does uninstalling myQ revoke the car?

Do not rely on it. Use the relevant account-unlink and access-permission controls, and check radio access separately.

Does unlinking cancel a paid plan?

No. Review cancellation with the provider separately from unlinking.
